Personal Development
If you are not satisfied with your life the answer is fairly simple – change
it! Or as James Rohn put it in one of his presentations;
“For things to change for you - You
have to change”
Like many things in life, it’s easier to say it than to do it but if you really
want to achieve lasting personal development you have to have a motivated mind which means self discipline.
However, the good news is that it can be done through positive thinking with daily optimistic affirmations and
assiduous study of self-help books.
You will need to have wealth
creation strategies so that you can achieve all you want financially. To do this you will have to be fit and
healthy in mind and body, for you will need energy and stamina if you are to be truly successful. Finally, or
perhaps earlier in your life, you will come to the realization that spiritual growth is a necessary component in
personal development.
The Ancients, in the
centuries-old book of Proverbs, put it like this;
“Apply your heart to instruction and
your ears to knowledge”
Thousands of years later, James
Allen paraphrased similar thoughts in “As a Man Thinketh”. He says that it’s up to you, do what you want with your
life, but understand that it is up to you. In fact, he gets right down to the nitty-gritty when he
says;
"They themselves are makers of
themselves"
That’s about as clear as any
motivational message could be. However, to emphasize the point he adds this;
“by virtue of the thoughts which they choose and encourage;
that mind is the master weaver,
both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance,
and that, as they may have hitherto woven in ignorance and pain
they may now weave in enlightenment and happiness.”
If you are serious about your personal development plans you will
consider the mind in conjunction with the body and the spirit. For, just as it is crucial that you feed your
mind with appropriate thoughts, it is equally important that you look after your physical body and the
internal spirit.
In truth, you must be vigilant because sickness, ill-health, mean-spiritedness and lax discipline in all things
can be attributable to your dominant thoughts. In other words, you must make a conscious effort to be a positive
thinking human being.
Many people will be satisfied
with self Improvement and motivation which allows them to get on in life whilst others will want to add daily
exercise and additional ways of keeping a healthy body. Yet others, particularly as they mature, may well be
concerned with what lies beyond this life and include spiritual growth in their personal development
plans.
Everybody wants a higher
standard of living which leads naturally into wealth creation strategies whether you work for someone else or run
your own business. Whichever way you go you will almost certainly need some form of sales training program to help
you on your way.
Your own wealth creation
strategies are dependent on your motivation for, without a defined objective, there will be no achievement. You
must have a clearly defined goal which will drive your strategies towards a personal wealth creation
program.
However, important as they are,
wealth creation strategies are not the be-all-and-end-all of life if you are to develop as a well-rounded
individual. You will also have a disciplined approach to your personal development with a healthy mind & body
along with a spiritual growth pattern to your life.
Personal development has many
facets but “As a Man Thinketh” encapsulates significant age-old truths many of us learnt at the
knees of our grandparents. His succinct elaboration of these verities spawned the vast personal development
industry we know today. In fact, Earl Nightingale, recognized by many to be the founder of contemporary personal
development, summed them up in his book “The Strangest Secret”.
In essence, Earl Nightingale
agreed with James Allen that we become what we think about in our personal development.
As James Allen
says:
“Man is made or unmade by himself; in
the armoury of thought he forges the weapons by which he destroys himself. He also fashions the tools with which
he builds for himself heavenly mansions of joy and strength and peace. By the right choice and true application
of thought, man ascends to the Divine Perfection; by the abuse and wrong application of thought, he descends
below the level of the beast. Between these two extremes are all the grades of character and man is their maker
and master.”
In fact, Napoleon Hill got it
right when he declared;
“all wealth is created by the human
mind”
literally, positive thinking and
goal setting.
You have no excuse; self help books are available in abundance and if you
are really interested in how to get motivated you can do no better than study the works of Zig Ziglar, Napoleon Hill, Earl Nightingale, Richard
Carlson, Joe Vitale, Denis Waitley, Bob Proctor, Og Mandino and Anthony Robbins as
they teach us all about personal development.
